D.J. Williams, Pro Bowler.
OK, so it probably isn’t going to happen. But you wouldn’t know it from listening to some of the post-game comments after the Broncos’ season opener.
A month ago, Bronco Nation was over-the-top concerned about Williams, who admittedly was struggling with the transition from strong-side linebacker to middle linebacker. But after the season opener, all that talk magically disappeared.
What do you say we tell it like it is with Williams, instead of the way Broncos fan are hoping it’s going to be? Yes, he played well at Buffalo, racking up nine tackles and a sack. But he isn’t going to be a great middle linebacker anytime soon.
Given the demands of the position, it’s going to take him a while to get comfortable. Now for the good news: Williams has the athleticism to emerge into an exceptional middle linebacker.
Probably sooner than later, but not at the moment.
