A missing 61-year-old hiker in Rocky Mountain National Park is working his way down a trail with rangers after being spotted by an aircraft earlier today with two other hikers.
Park rangers had been searching for Brandt Everhart of Virginia after he failed to return from a hike Wednesday.
This afternoon, they caught up with Everhart along the Chasm Lake Trail, Kyle Patterson, a park spokeswoman, said in a press release. He was with two other hikers.
Everhart and a hiking partner had set out from Longs Peak Trailhead at 8 a.m. Wednesday but separated at Goblins Forest at about 9 a.m., roughly 1.2 miles from the trailhead, because of varying hiking abilities, Patterson said.
Everhart is expected to finish hiking out to the Longs Peak Trailhead with rangers by about 5 p.m., Patterson said.
Weather in the area is windy, with the temperature dropping, Patterson said.
Patterson described Everhart as a moderately experienced hiker but one who was not prepared to spend the night in the backcountry.
