Colorado Springs native Danny Pate, of the Boulder-based Slipstream team, used a late push with less than a kilometer remaining to win Stage 5 at the Tour of Missouri. Pate and teammate David Zabriskie were also selected for the World Championship team to compete in Stuttgart, Germany.

Buffs place third in Tucker Invitational

The University of Colorado men’s golf team moved to within two strokes of the lead on two occasions at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, but Pepperdine held on to win the team title at even-par 864 on Saturday. CU finished third at 7-over 871, behind second-place San Diego State (868).

Pepperdine’s Jesse Barnsley won the individual title with a three-round total of 12-under 204. CU’s Derek Tolan closed with a 73 and tied for seventh at 1-under 215.

Adams State dominates 4-miler

The Adams State men’s cross country team, ranked No. 1 in Division II, swept the top five spots to win the Colorado State Classic 4-mile in Fort Collins. Aaron Braun, a graduate of from Rocky Mountain High School, took first place in 20 minutes, 3.7 seconds.

Colorado State’s April Thomas won the women’s 5K race in 18:01.6 as the Rams took top team honors.
