The University of Denver hockey team has received an oral commitment Wednesday from goalie Adam Murray, who plays for the under-17 National Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. Murray, from Anchorage, Alaska, probably won’t join the Pioneers until 2009. DU has senior goalie Peter Mannino and two freshman netminders, including primary backup Marc Cheverie, a 2006 draft pick of the Florida Panthers.

Mammoth signs six, including Tait

The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League signed six players to its preseason roster, general manager Steve Govett said:

They are Adam Zuder-Havens, a University of Delaware graduate; Team England member David Leach; former Butler University defenseman Steve Forsythe; Calgary native Kyle McAlister; Denver’s Kevin Tait; and Edmonton native Graedon Cornfield, the younger brother of Mammoth forward Jordan Cornfield.

Call a wire-to-wire winner at Pelican Lakes

Matt Call from Advantage Golf Colorado led from start to finish to claim the Colorado PGA Section Championship at Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club in Windsor. Call’s three-round total of 200, after a final-round 68, was 16-under par. He finished five strokes ahead of three-time champion Ron Vlosich, formerly of Green Gables Country Club.

UNC releases men’s hoops schedule

The University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball team will face at least two and maybe three of the four Division I Front Range teams in its 2007-08 campaign. Coach Tad Boyle released the Bears’ schedule.

UNC, of the Big Sky Conference, will open its season at the Air Force Classic, beginning Nov. 9 with a game against VMI. The following day, the Bears will face either Air Force or Dartmouth. UNC also will play Colorado State in Greeley on Dec. 1 and at Denver on Dec. 8.
