Denver is rich with people who love to give, and that’s why it’s such an honor to tell about the following:

The second Florence Ruston Award for Philanthropy in the Arts will be presented to Allan and Margot Frank on Oct. 4, as part of the opening celebration for the Denver Center Theatre Company’s 2007-08 season. Margot is a trustee of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and the University of Denver and she and her husband have sponsored numerous DCTC productions, including “You Can’t Take It With You.” Guests will see the play following dinner in the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom.

The Junior League of Denver and Steve Siegel of the Denver District Attorney’s Office are to be honored Oct. 6 when SafeHouse Denver marks its 30th anniversary with a 1977-themed gala held at the Westin Tabor Center. JLD is receiving the Susan Noble Community Impact Award for the 12 years its members have provided funding and volunteer hours for children’s programs at SafeHouse Denver. Siegel is to receive the Carolyn Hamil-

Henderson Award for his work supervising the Domestic Violence Fast Track Program and the Denver Victim Services 2000 Project.

Also on Oct. 6, the Denver Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation will present two Excellence in Education awards during the chamber’s Fiesta Colorado; the Latina Leadership Award in Honor of Juana Bordas also will be given at this dinner held at the Colorado Convention Center. Recipients are Leonard Baca, known as the Father of Bilingual Education in Colorado; OWL, or Open World Learning, a nonprofit educational program founded in 2000 to challenge students in learning advanced computer skills and digital technology; and Monique Lovato, Xcel Energy’s community relations manager in Colorado and chair of the Mile High Montessori Early Childhood Learning Center.

Allied Jewish Federation’s third Evening with the Stars paid tribute to a host of local leaders: Chad Asarch received the Ruth and Warren Toltz Young Leadership Award while Tracey Pliskin went home with the Charlotte Tucker Young Leadership Award. Debra Weinstein received kudos as Volunteer of the Year and Rose Community Foundation was named Partner of the Year. The federation’s outgoing board and campaign chairs also were thanked; the group included Rob Mintz, Don and Debbie Silversmith, Tom and Margie Gart, David Kaufman, Vicki Trachten-Schwartz, Dvora Kanegis, Chaya Major, Bob and Robyn Loup, Jodi Asarch and Andy and Rana Kark.

The Colorado Nonprofit Association is now accepting nominations for three awards to be given at a March 7 luncheon: the William Funk Award for Building Community, Legislator of the Year and the Public Service Lifetime Achievement Award. The deadline is Oct. 1; call 303-832-5710, ext. 224.

Love is in the air

They’ve known each other since they were children, and on Sept. 15 Armen Khadiwala exchanged wedding vows with Jameela Klaimy at Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Denver.

“It’s the continuation of a very beautiful love story,” observed Armen’s mother, Artemis Khadiwala-Donian.

The ceremony, with guests coming from all over the world, was followed by a diner-dance at the Grand Hyatt Denver.
