SAN FRANCISCO—Troubled Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu returned to California Thursday after being released by Colorado authorities.
He landed at San Francisco International Airport in the custody of state investigators. He was whisked away by a caravan of law enforcement vehicles.
Hsu faces a 15-year-old fraud case in California and failed to show up two weeks ago for a hearing on the matter. He was captured in Colorado after skipping a scheduled court appearance in Redwood City on the theft case.
A criminal complaint was unsealed Thursday in New York, alleging that Hsu was part of a “massive” Ponzi scheme that ensnared investors across the country and swindled them of 60 million dollars.
Hsu boarded an Amtrak train in the San Francisco area with a ticket for Denver, but he apparently fell ill in western Colorado and had to be hospitalized in Grand Junction. He had mailed a suicide note to a New York group.
