Getting your player ready...

Snow is falling at the Eisenhower Tunnel and we’re still talking about the Rockies as a playoff contender. Miracles do happen. (Keep saying it.)

The Rox were picked to finish last in the National League this year, yet with their eighth straight win Sunday in San Diego, they’ve pulled to within 1-1/2 games of the wildcard-leading Padres.

Dust off your black and purple hats and keep a good thought for the Rockies as they head into their final six games — three against the Dodgers in Los Angeles and the last three here against Arizona.

The last time such Rockies excitement reigned in Colorado was in 1995, when the team won the National League wild card. Since then, we’ve had no post-season play.

The recent burst of game-winning performances ought to encourage Rockies management to negotiate a little harder to lock some of their better players into long-term contracts. It would be a shame to see the team come alive for one brief, shining moment and then lurch right back into mediocrity.

But for now, let’s enjoy the moment.

Could the Rockies still be in it at the end of October? Now, that would be a real miracle.
