Matchups with the nation’s No. 1-ranked squad and a top-five team and a father-son coaching battle highlight the Northern Colorado wrestling schedule, released Monday.
The Bears, who return two NCAA Tournament qualifiers, will travel to face No. 1 Minnesota, the defending national champion, in a dual match on Nov. 24 in Rochester. UNC will meet Nebraska, ranked No. 5 by WrestlingReport, on Jan. 2.
On Jan. 26, the Bears travel to face North Dakota State, a match that will pit UNC coach Jack Maughan against his father, Bucky Maughan, the Bison’s head coach, and brother, Bret Maughan, an assistant coach.
Two DU gymnasts going to 2008 Olympics
Two University of Denver gymnasts learned they have qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing after earning individual spots at the World Championships on Sept. 9 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Jessica Lopez, a junior from Venezuela, and Annamari Maaranen, a freshman from Finland, will represent their countries in Beijing. Lopez will be the lone Venezuelan gymnast at the games. Maaranen is the first Finnish gymnast in 44 years to qualify.
