State Rep. Cory Gardner figures the governor’s office just wants him to blow away.
After the Yuma Republican criticized Gov. Bill Ritter’s business agenda as “a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down,” a Ritter aide gave Gardner a Mary Poppins-style umbrella Wednesday.
Gardner was sitting in a water resources committee meeting when legislative liaison Mary Kay Hogan popped in with the black umbrella.
He also got a DVD of the Walt Disney movie for his 3-year-old daughter and a “lovely card” with this message:
“First (Sen. Josh) Penry calls our renewable energy plan ‘Buzz Lightyear,’ then you call our eco-devo package a ‘spoonful of sugar’ – glad to know you guys are taking your policy cues from Walt Disney.”
A few months back, Penry said the governor reminded him of Buzz Lightyear – whose famous line in the movie “Toy Story” is “To infinity and beyond” – because of his futuristic talk about renewable energy and ethanol.
Gardner said he thought the retort was “absolutely hilarious.”
“As long as nobody gets personal,” he said.
