A 25-year-old man shot his mother to death and then fatally shot himself in front of several witnesses in Cañon City yesterday, officials say.
Donna Jean Rutigliano, 55, was killed and Joseph B. Lehrfeld, her son, committed suicide, said Andrea Cooper of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
Several neighbors of Rutigliano’s home at 1405 Sherman Ave., who saw the shooting, called 911, Cooper said.
They said Rutigliano and her son had an argument before Lehrfeld shot his mother several times, she said.
Authorities are still investigating what their dispute was about, Cooper said.
