DENVER—Vice President Dick Cheney made a brief visit to Colorado on Thursday to attend a fundraiser for the state Republican Party.
When he first arrived at Denver International Airport, Cheney, accompanied by his wife Lynne, greeted a handful of people and then left in a motorcade. His visit, which lasted about 3 1/2 hours, didn’t include any public appearances.
Cheney was invited to address a group of about 20 people at the offices of former state Republican chairman Bruce Benson in the Colorado State Bank Building. Benson expected the event to bring in “hundreds of thousands” of dollars.
Don Alperstein, a lawyer who works in the building, said people were told at 3:15 p.m. that they had 30 minutes to leave or would be stuck in the building for an indefinite “lockdown” during Cheney’s visit. He said he was the only person on his floor who stayed.
Cheney was also scheduled to make fundraising stops in Wyoming and Utah on Friday.
