Two-time snowboardcross world champion Lindsey Jacobellis of Stratton Mountain, Vt., notched her second World Cup podium of the early season last week by winning the opening snowboardcross World Cup event in Valle Nevado, Chile.
“She’s been focusing a lot on halfpipe lately,” said head coach Peter Foley. “She finished 10th in the time trial, but she’s so good in heat races. She’s really good at blocking all possible passing lanes and holding a lead.”
The strategy may have caught up with Jacobellis over the weekend, however, as she was taken out of contention in a second World Cup SBX race when another rider landed on her after going over a jump on the course. Jacobellis finished sixth.
The top American male was Idaho’s Graham Watenabe (fifth place both races).

Ski rental deals
Christy Sports has resumed its popular season-rental program for ski equipment at all 11 Front Range locations while supplies last. Junior packages begin at $89.
“Families who want maximum enjoyment out of the sport find that season rentals just make sense,” said Dennis Meeker, Christy store manager in Boulder. “With growing children, you have two choices: buy equipment one or two times each year as they grow within the season, or rent a ski or snowboard package for half the cost as a new package. And as that little one grows within the season, come back and get a bigger size at no cost.”
