Despite windy conditions, the University of Colorado women’s golf team led wire to wire and won the Heather Farr Memorial Colorado Invitational at Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield on Tuesday.

The Buffaloes finished with a three-round team total of 885, followed by Oklahoma (889), Idaho (890), Colorado State (899) and Cal-Davis (900).

It’s the first time CU won its own tournament after three second-place finishes.

Portland State’s Kayla Morinaga earned medalist honors after shooting a final-round 71 to finish at 2-under-par 214. Dominique Pytlewski led the Buffs with an even-par 216 to finish in second place.

Kearney on Saturday propelled the Mesa State football team to a No. 25 ranking in the weekly Division II AFCA coaches poll. The Mavericks (5-0) joined fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member Chadron State (5-0), ranked No. 4, among the top 25.

New Mexico prep star picks Cowgirls. Wyoming women’s basketball coach Joe Legerski signed his fourth player of the early signing period, Brenna Freeze of Albuquerque’s La Cueva High School.

Freeze is a 5-foot-11 guard who averaged 13.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in helping her team reach the semifinals of New Mexico’s Class 5A state tournament last season. Freeze, who received second-team all-state honors last season, chose Wyoming over hometown New Mexico and North Texas.

Rudquist wins, then loses at Mid-Am. Jason Rudquist of Peyton won his second-round match at the United States Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., then was eliminated in the third round.

Rudquist beat David Schnider of Vista, Calif., 1-up, then lost to Jordan Byrd of Clemson, S.C., 6 and 4.
