Allen Iverson said he told HYB Entertainment that he would not be able to appear at a summer youth rally in Omaha and that he would deal with being sued by the company for his absence.
“I alerted them that I wasn’t going to make it,” Iverson said Thursday. “The situation is what it is. They knew I wasn’t going to be there. So, it’s another one of those things.”
Iverson is being sued for $44,000, which includes a deposit made to secure Iverson’s appearance and money for a private jet.
A release provided to The Associated Press from Iverson’s CrossOver Promotions, which handles his appearances, on Wednesday said “unforeseen circumstances” because of a family emergency were the reason Iverson was not able to appear.
Iverson insisted the situation would not interfere with his on-court responsibilities.
“It’s just another obstacle in my life,” Iverson said. “It’s something else that I have to endure. I’m not bringing that in here. I don’t bring that in here. When I’m playing basketball, I’m thinking about just basketball. I owe that to the talent God gave.
“When it’s time to play basketball, that’s what I do and I think and concentrate on the game. That’s just another situation that I’m not even worried about because I know the truth.”
