Getting your player ready...

A two-game losing streak. Problems in the red zone. The kick returner banished to the waiver wire.

Yep, it’s official. The Broncos could use some of that positive Rockies karma.

And who better to give it to them than, well, me. Mr. Positive. Señor Sunshine. Tom Nalen’s favorite sports writer. OK, I made up that last part, but you get the idea.

We’ve got three more months of this drill, people. We don’t need the Broncos circling the drain in October. That may be a way of life in Arizona and Cleveland, but not in Denver. We’ve got standards in this dusty old cowtown.

The way I see it, the Broncos don’t need motivation. What they need is a reality check.

In reality, they’ve got a lot going for them. You don’t become the sixth-ranked offense in the league by mistake. And while we’re on the subject, the defense, lousy run D and all, is ranked seventh.

Two other NFL teams are in the top seven in the league in offense and defense. That would be the Patriots and Cowboys, most people’s matchup for the Super Bowl.

The Pats and ‘Boys are a combined 8-0. The Broncos? They’re 2-2 and looking for answers, so much so that Mike Shanahan sent kick returner Domenik Hixon packing earlier this week.

When you look at the numbers, it’s hard to paint the Broncos as a have-not, a wannabe, a .500 team waiting to happen. They do a lot of things well, just not enough things well.

Remember a couple of months ago? If not, let me refresh your memory. That’s when everyone was saying the Rockies were playing well, but didn’t have enough pitching. And look what’s happened to them.

If the Rockies did it, why not the Broncos? If it really is about adjusting to schemes instead of a lack of talent, as the coaches and players keep saying, maybe the players will wake up one day and figure it all out.

And just for the record, fellas? Sunday wouldn’t be a bad day to do it. A loss to the Chargers and Señor Sunshine may have to rethink things.
