Camp Robber has a funky name, but don’t let that fool you about eatery’s classy approach

This gateway city to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park has a restaurant that gets the little things right – creative and unpretentious, in a new, larger space since last year, with servers who team up to deliver your food hot. Get the fresh basil vinaigrette on your achingly fresh salad (even the wait staff can’t wheedle the dressing’s recipe out of the chef) and try the chile-pistachio-crusted pork medallions and the chocolate crème brûlée. The hostess’ welcome is ranch-town genuine, and the fresh take on rustic décor is relaxing but still sophisticated; just don’t bonk your head on the “ve-haf-vays-of-making-you-talk” lighting above the cushy booths. Fish & Farm, new downtown delight, promotes “eat local” and has environmentally sound focus

Fish & Farm promises to please your palate while easing your conscience. In solidarity with the national “eat local” movement, the new destination near Union Square taps California’s rich harvest for items grown within a 100-mile radius, then serves them while they are in their prime. Grand opening is Thursday; the ever-changing menu debuts with Monterey squid, Point Reyes clams, greens from Watsonville and martinis seasoned with the mint and tarragon grown on the restaurant’s roof. Other efforts to tread lightly on Mother Earth include reclaimed-bamboo floors and donating cooking oil to biodiesel plants. If the concept is successful, watch for Fish & Farm to grow nationally.
