A married couple found dead in their home earlier this week died as a result of a murder-suicide, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office said today.
Alfred and April Abeyta, who were found Wednesday in their home at 2216 Sussex Lane, died from gunshot wounds, the coroner said.
April Abeyta, 48, died from two shots to the head, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Alfred Abeyta, 42, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a suicide.
Investigators determined that the couple was initially found by a family member who responded to the residence after not being able to contact them.
Both bodies were found on the bed in the master bedroom of the residence.
A weapon was recovered at the scene.
There was no known history of any prior domestic violence cases involving the Abeytas, authorities said.
It appeared the murder suicide occurred within that past few days, authorities said.
April Abeyta’s death is the 20th homicide this year in Colorado Springs, authorities said.
