PARACHUTE, Colo.—A welder working on a natural gas well pad was killed, apparently after a piece of machinery struck him, an EnCana Oil and Gas spokesman said.
Garfield County coroner’s officials identified the man Friday as James Edward Ramsey, 47, of Texas. His hometown could not immediately be confirmed.
He was working Thursday for a contractor of Nabors Drilling, which is itself an EnCana contractor, EnCana spokesman Doug Hock said. He was helping guide a compressor on a forklift when something on a front loader detached and hit him, Hock said.
Deputy Coroner Thomas Walton said Ramsey’s death was still under investigation.
A Nabors official could not be reached for comment.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating, sheriff’s spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said. EnCana and its contractors also were investigating, Hock said.
