Getting your player ready...

Even before the drubbing of the loss-prone Broncos by San Diego on Sunday, some fans were shifting their ardor to the Rockies, the team that can scarcely lose. Dick Dunham wore a Rockies T-shirt to the Broncos game.

“I’m 70 years old, my birthday was yesterday, and I got this shirt,” said Dunham, who attended the sorry and soggy football game with his 15-year-old grandson, Danny Beutner.

Dunham has been a Broncos season-ticket holder for more than 20 years. Like many, he says: “We became Rockies fans when they began playing good. We’re Rockies fans now, and we’ll try to get some tickets.”

Fritz Schumann, 27, of Denver also suffered through the loss at Invesco Field at Mile High with his girlfriend, Anna Black, but they had a salve for the hurt. As a holder of Rockies season tickets, Schumann was able to acquire seats for the team’s playoff run that could lead to the World Series.

“If you have season tickets to the Rockies, it means you’ve been through thick and thin,” said Schumann, who saw at least 40 games at Coors Field this year. “I thought they’d be competitive and winners, but everything that’s happened afterward has been a huge bonus.”
