Denver’s Winter Park resort has donated 1,000 ski passes to help the Department of Parks and Recreation start a ski club for Denver children.

“This program is designed to build lifelong interest in winter snow sports among Denver’s urban youth,” Denver Parks and Recreation manager Kim Bailey said in a release.

Lift tickets will be available, beginning Dec. 1, to Denver schools and nonprofits. The program is available to middle-school and high-school students who have some experience in snow sports but may not have the money for ski passes.

The Youth Ski Club is offered in addition to the Learn to Ski Program, which provides kids lessons as well as lift tickets and equipment rental.

“Our hope is that the new ski club will be an extension of our Learn to Ski Program and allow children the opportunity to continue their pursuit of these sports,” Bailey said.
