The Colorado Endowment for the Humanities will present its annual Colorado Book Awards during a dinner at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

A reception and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. The awards presentation begins at 8 p.m.

Awards will be presented in 10 categories. The finalists are:

Anthology/collection – “Please Stay on the Trail: A Collection of Colorado Fiction,” edited by Matt Hudson; “Hot Coffee and Cold Truth: Living and Writing the West,” edited by W.C. Jameson; and “Open Windows 2006,” edited by Sonya Unrein.

Children’s literature – “What Could Be Better Than This?” by Linda Asman, illustrated by Linda S. Wingerter; “Inventor McGregor,” by Kathleen Paley, illustrated by Michael Chesworth; and “Epossumondas Saves the Day,” by Coleen Salley, illustrated by Janet Stevens.

Creative nonfiction – “Who Are You People: A Personal Journey Into the Heart of Fanatical Passion in America,” by Shari Caudron; “Desert of the Heart,” by Karen Chamberlain; and “The Creaky Traveler in Ireland: Clare, Kerry and West Cork,” by Warren Rovetch.

Fiction – “Fish Full of River,” by Janet Bland; “The Pull of the Earth,” by Teague Bohlen; “The Touching That Lasts,” by Kent Nelson; and “Threads,” by Patrice St. Onge.

History – “Your Death Could Be Mine: Paul and Marie Pireaud in the Great War,” by Martha Hanna; “The Life of Yellowstone Kelly,” by Jerry Keenan; and “Nordenskiold of Mesa Verde,” by David Reynolds and Judith Reynolds.

General nonfiction – “Arctic Lace: Knitting Projects and Stories Inspired by Alaska’s Native Knitters,” by Donna Cruchunas; “Walking Into Colorado’s Past: 50 Front Range History Hikes,” written and photographed by Ben Fogelberg and Steve Grinstead; “Pull: Networking and Success Since Benjamin Franklin,” by Pamela Walker Laird; and “The Apron Book,” by Ellyn Anne Geisel.

Pictorial – “Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park Then & Now,” by James H. Pickering and Carey Stevanus, photographs by Mic Clinger; “Colorado’s Hidden Wonders,” written and photographed by Grant Collier; and “Durango Country,” by Claude Steelman.

Poetry – “The Prayers of Others,” by David Keplinger; “indentity papers,” by Jeffrey Ethan Lee; and “Erosion’s Pull,” by Maureen Owens.

Popular fiction – “The Nymphos of Rocky Flats,” by Mario Acevedo; “Iron Ties,” by Ann Parker; and “Forbidden Cargo,” by Rebecca K. Rowe.

Young adult literature – “The Great Tree of Avalon: Book Three, The Eternal Flame,” by T.A. Barron; “The Farsala Trilogy: Forging the Sword,” by Hilari Bell; and “What the Moon Saw,” by Laura Resau.
