Fresno, Calif. Fresno State
has agreed to pay $3.5 million to
settle a sexual discrimination lawsuit
filed by a former athletic administrator.

Diane Milutinovich, a former associate
athletic director, alleged
the university reassigned her to
another position in 2002 and fired
her last year because she had spoken
out about equal treatment for
female athletes.

The university claimed Milutinovich’s
job was eliminated to
save money five years ago and did
not explain why she was placed
on leave last year.

Under the settlement, the university
will recognize her as an
employee emeritus for her three
decades of work at Fresno State.

The NCAA is making bench decorum a point of emphasis for 2007-08 and warns coaches to expect a whistle without warning for a variety of unsportsmanlike actions. Referees who are consistent in enforcing the rules will be rewarded.

Former La. Tech baseball coach kills wife, self. Former Louisiana Tech baseball coach Pat Patterson killed his wife, who had Alzheim-

er’s, and then himself at an assisted living facility outside Ruston, La.

Patterson’s 71-year-old wife, Glenda, had been a resident of the home for about a month, he said.

Patterson, 73, coached baseball at Louisiana Tech from 1968-90 and retired with a record of 741-462. He then served for several years as Louisiana Tech’s associate athletic director, overseeing athletic eligibility and NCAA compliance.

Tennis authorities examining suspicious matches. london Tennis officials are examining a document that lists professional matches considered to be suspicious, including some at Grand Slams, dating to 2002.

“We were in receipt of the document (Wednesday), and it has been sent to the relevant authorities within tennis,” ATP spokesman Kris Dent said.

The document was labeled “Suspect Tennis Matches,” and it was unclear who compiled the list.

Match-fixing rumors have swirled around tennis for the past few months.
