COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Fort Carson soldier injured earlier this week when a bomb exploded near his vehicle has died, the military announced Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Eric T. Duckworth, 26, of Plano, Texas, died in Baghdad on Wednesday. He was with the 759th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade.

The announcement of his death happened the same day a memorial was held for the last Fort Carson soldier killed in Iraq, Sgt. Edmund Jeffers who died Sept. 19 in a car crash.

Duckworth is the 222nd Fort Carson soldier killed in Iraq since the U.S. invasion in March 2003.

The 43rd Area Support Group, of which Duckworth’s unit is a part of, has lost 15 soldiers in Iraq.
