Getting your player ready...

What about Bob? “A few things were thrown in the outfield by fans during Game 1 of the Arizona-Colorado series in Phoenix. Just like throwing snowballs at Mile High Stadium! Do you remember? Your column, along with Rockies manager Clint Hurdle grandstanding by pulling his team off the field, will probably be the turning point in the series. Watch out now!”

Jim, Snake-lover

Kiz: Didn’t the place where the D-backs play used to be called The Bob? There’s so much apathy for baseball in Arizona that even poor old Bob left the building and hasn’t bothered to come back.

A little fatherly support. “Hoorah for something that needed to be said regarding Broncos running back Travis Henry and every NFL player who breaks the rules. Kids and adults need to know it’s not OK to skip child support or smoke dope and get away with it. Thanks for sticking up for everyday people and letting it be known this behavior will not be allowed in our city.”

Jen, Littleton

Kiz: If my math is correct, Henry is currently eligible to be named father of the year in four different states. Or maybe not.

Up in smoke. “You guys should consider smoking weed to clear your thoughts. No disrespect to Mike Shanahan and staff, but what haze are you guys looking through that makes it impossible to ever discuss the fact that maybe it’s time for a change of coach, like you guys felt was the case for Hurdle and George Karl of the Nuggets in the not too distant past?”

Paul, Aurora

Kiz: OK, dude. You bring an old vinyl copy of “Workingman’s Dead” and I’ll bake the brownies. But you have to be Rocky Mountain high to think Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is even thinking of firing Shanny.

A Cut(ler) above Leinart. “I don’t see Tennessee quarterback Vince Young having the same leadership problems in his second NFL season as Jay Cutler of the Broncos. Maybe Cutler isn’t much of a natural leader at all, while Young’s leadership abilities have been well-documented since college. Cutler has done little to inspire confidence through actions on the field, his body language or general presence.”

Tim, New York

Kiz: There’s no denying Young has moved to the head of the quarterback class of 2006. But at least my man Jay-C is making the grade better than Matt Leinart, just another pretty face threatening to become the NFL’s version of Anna Kournikova.

We are Marshall – not! “Hearing young Brandon Marshall regarding Broncos fans disappoints me, especially when he included the barb about fans jumping on the Rockies bandwagon.”

Kevin, Windsor

Kiz: Mr. Marshall should thank his lucky stars fans are following the Rocks rather than throwing brickbats at the broken-down Donkeys.

Parting shot

And today’s parting shot is proof how big a turn-off it is to be stuck with an NFL team on a three-game losing streak.

“Here in Big Sky Country, we are in the Broncos’ television coverage area. But at the beginning of the fourth quarter of their loss to San Diego, the local CBS affiliate cut in and announced, ‘We now take you to a more competitive game.’ Nothing else needed to be said.”

Gary, Bozeman, Mont.
