PUEBLO, Colo.—Cheyenne Mountain dominated play Friday at the Class 4A state tennis tournament at Pueblo’s City Park Tennis Complex, advancing their entire team in all seven brackets.
Justin Hermes, Brad Young and Jay Patel are in the No. 1 through No. 3 singles finals Saturday for Cheyenne and John Adams. The coach’s son, and Jonathon Moore (No. 1), Hemal Semwal and Andrew Odlin (No. 2), Michael Cutter and Ari Halling (No. 3) and Kevin Lynch and Matt Bowser (No. 4) also are playing for championships in doubles.
“We played very well Friday and the guys had a very good, workman-like type of attitude,” veteran Cheyenne Mountain coach Dave Adams said.
Cheyenne Mountain has won 12 of the last 15 Class 4A titles outright and tied Kent Denver for the crown in 1999.
Cheyenne Mountain has 70 points, but rival Kent Denver, which won the state title in 2003 and 2004, has players in five brackets and trails by nine points.
