WASHINGTON — D.C. United and the Chicago Fire extended unbeaten streaks by playing to a scoreless tie Saturday night.

United (16-6-7) is unbeaten in its past 13 Major League Soccer games. The Fire (9-10-10) has a seven-game unbeaten streak.

It was the first time D.C. failed to score since losing 1-0 at New York on July 22, the game before United started its streak.

United goalkeeper Troy Perkins had a season-high nine saves. He tied his previous season high of eight in the first half.

His final save came on one of the Fire’s most dangerous shots of the night, when Chad Barrett took the ball from a defender and fired a hard shot from the top of the penalty box in the 54th minute.

United’s closest scoring chance came early, when Guy-Roland Kpene hit the left post in the 16th minute.

Chivas USA has 52 points with two games left. Chicago remains in position for the eighth and final playoff spot with one game left. The tie eliminates the Rapids from playoff contention.

Crew 3, Revolution 2 at Foxborough, Mass. Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored his fifth goal of the season late in the game, and Columbus kept its MLS playoff hopes alive with three second-half goals to stun New England.

Columbus (8-11-10) is one of four teams in contention for the final two playoff spots. New England fell to 14-8-7 with one regular-season game left.

Red Bulls 2, Wizards 1 at East Rutherford, N.J. Juan Pablo Angel scored two goals to lead New York to a victory over Kansas City.

The Red Bulls (12-11-6) clinched third place in the Eastern Conference, while the Wizards (10-12-7) missed an opportunity to take the conference’s final playoff spot.

Kansas City is tied with Chicago, with both teams having one game left.

Angel’s first goal came when he converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute. Angel’s conversion made him 5-for-5 in penalty-kick chances this year.
