Coloradans awoke to snow and rain Sunday, and the precipitation stayed all day.

Frank Cooper, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said low pressure in northeastern Colorado is bringing moisture into the Denver area.

In the mountains, there was a good blanket of snow.

Breckenridge received a foot of the white stuff, while in most foothills communities – such as Evergreen and Estes Park – there was 3 to 6 inches.

“This is not unusual weather in Denver for this time of year,” Cooper said.

Sunday morning, the western suburbs – such as Lakewood and Golden – were pounded by heavy rain.

Cooper said the weather should improve in the next few days.

Today’s high will be in the mid-50s, and it will be in the mid- to high 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Then Denver can expect a cooldown on Thursday with the high in the mid-50s.
