FORT CARSON, Colo.—Nearly two years after ex-soldier Joseph Barker’s body was found in a sewage treatment pond at Fort Carson, the Army believes his death is a homicide and on Monday offered $10,000 reward for information.

Barker disappeared from the barracks he was visiting at Fort Carson in February 2006. His body was found two weeks later.

The Army’s investigation has been secretive and in a statement announcing the reward, the Army did not disclose any additional information. It said the reward was for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for his death.

Barker, 21, went to war in 2003 with Fort Carson’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team and attained the rank of specialist. He re-enlisted but was discharged in 2005 because of chronic back problems.

His mother, Lynda Carlock, said Barker returned with painful Iraq experiences and returned to Fort Carson to spend time with friends who shared his war experience.
