A 35-year-old man has been arrested for investigation of cruelty to a child after doctors discovered his infant daughter had 24 fractures, according to court records.

Steven Morris was arrested Oct. 10 for allegedly abusing Tamara Morris, who was born Aug. 30, according to Denver District Court records.

He was released Tuesday without being formally charged, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.

“It’s under investigation as to how she obtained the injuries,” Jackson said.

The Denver Department of Human Services is now involved in the child’s welfare, said Benilda Samuels, spokeswoman for Human Services. She said she could not comment further about the agency’s role.

“We’ve never had any involvement with this child before,” Samuels said.

Tamara’s mother, Linda Morris, told police that she left the child with her husband, Steven Morris, on Oct. 8 and went to work, a court report by Detective Ken Klaus says.

When Linda Morris returned to their Denver home, Tamara was crying and appeared to be in pain, the report says. Linda Morris took the girl to Children’s Hospital the next morning when she noticed that her daughter’s leg had swollen, the report says.

Physicians examining the child discovered that her femur was broken, Klaus’ report said. When they conducted a full skeletal exam they discovered numerous other fractures.
