A body found in a creek near Colorado 72 on Friday night has been identified as Tennyson McCarty, 32, a former University of Colorado football player.
The cause of death hasn’t been determined, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Boulder County coroner Tom Faure.
McCarty’s body was found in a creek along the Peak to Peak Highway, near Peaceful Valley between Ward and Allenspark, said David Plati, CU sports information director.
Faure said Saturday that an autopsy has been completed but more lab tests will be done. He declined to comment further, except to say foul play is not suspected.
McCarty’s brother, Eric McCarty, CU’s director of sports medicine, said in a statement Saturday night that McCarty went missing Tuesday and a missing person’s report was filed Wednesday.
In the statement, released to Plati, Eric McCarty said that his brother’s “biggest impact was helping others through his ministry.”
McCarty, who lived in Boulder with his father, Cleveland McCarty, was doing Christian ministry with magic acts.
Eric McCarty said he was at the CU-Kansas game Saturday because “CU was his passion; my passion too. It was good to go to the field where he played. Tennyson poured his heart out at Folsom (Field).”
McCarty played tight end at CU from 1994 to 1997 and was best-known for a game-winning touchdown reception at the CU-Texas A&M game in 1995. He also was an outstanding student at both CU and Boulder High School.
Eric McCarty played fullback at CU from 1983 to 1987.
