Kat Tarr’s headed goal off a corner kick in the 12th minute proved to be the game-winner as the No. 16-ranked University of Missouri women’s soccer team defeated Colorado 2-0 on Sunday in a Big 12 Conference game at Prentup Field in Boulder.
Tarr’s goal, placed in the upper left corner past CU goalkeeper Kristin Radlinski, came from Katya Hessel’s dead-ball cross. In the 84th minute, Missouri’s Kristin Andrighetto broke free on a one-on-one with the CU defense and bent a shot into the net to put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
“I have never wanted to win more for a team than I wanted to today,” CU coach Bill Hempen said. “It’s hard to go forward after fighting as hard as we did today. Missouri is a good team and they were able to take advantage. We brought everything we had, but sometimes that isn’t enough.”
In the opening minute, Colorado’s Nikki Marshall got through the Tigers’ back line but her shot toward goal went wide.
Colorado (7-6-3, 3-4-0) is in ninth place in the Big 12 standings, with nine points. Missouri (11-4-0, 5-2-0) moved into second place with 15 points, trailing conference leader Texas A&M (21 points).
