A man who beat an alleged thief so severely that authorities thought he had been run over by a car was arrested for investigation of second-degree assault, authorities say.
Gerald Oliveri, 28, of Loveland allegedly chased down and beat Shane Kramer, 26, after catching him and another burglar breaking into his girlfriend’s car, said Benjamin Hurr, Loveland police spokesman.
Oliveri’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Jessica Summa, called police, but did not initially tell them her boyfriend beat Kramer, who police found lying unconscious on the 3600 block of Butternut Drive after Saturday’s 3:16 a.m. incident, Hurr said.
Kramer was bleeding and had severe head and body injuries, he said. Kramer was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies.
Loveland police investigators learned that Kramer and Mark Springer, 25, broke into several cars on the same street before the beating. Charges have not yet been filed against the two, Hurr said.
Police found Oliveri in his mother’s house across the street, Hurr said. He admitted assaulting Kramer.
