Getting your player ready...

They take their hunting and fishing pretty seriously in Moffat County, as well they should: The industry contributes $25.5 million to the economy each year. This month we’re in the heart of big-game hunting season, when rifle hunters take a shot at the huge northwestern Colorado mule deer and elk herds, which are migrating toward their winter grounds. Local hunter and sportsman information specialist Ned Miller is happy to offer advice on where and when herds congregate; find him at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, 360 E. Victory Way, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, or call 970-824-5689.

Getting there: Craig is 198 miles (about 3 hours, 40 minutes) northwest of Denver by car. Take Interstate 70 west to Silverthorne and take exit 205 to head north on Colorado 9 to U.S. 40. Turn west on U.S. 40 and drive 93 miles to Craig.
