GUNNISON — All-American Danny Woodhead missed his second straight game with a foot injury, but that didn’t slow Division II No. 2 Chadron (Neb.) State, who got 202 yards rushing from backup running back Aaron Cooksley in a 50-17 victory over Western State (1-9, 0-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) Saturday at the Mountaineer Bowl.

Cooksley had only 12 carries, setting the tone for an efficient Eagles offense. Chadron State (10-0, 7-0) racked up the 50 points despite having the ball for less than 20 minutes.

A fumble on Western’s opening drive set up a 10-yard touchdown run by Mark Haag. After a Lloyd Tucker field goal cut the lead to 7-3, Chadron scored on another rushing touchdown – a 70-yarder by Aaron Cooksley.

Western closed to within 21-17 with 9:09 to play in the first half on TD catches from tight ends Curtis Prock and Darius Johnson, but the Eagles scored twice before the half, then poured it on in the second half.

Eastern Washington 17, Northern Colorado 7 CHENEY, WASH. — A.J. Jimerson rushed for 100 yards and the Eastern Washington defense forced three key turnovers in its victory over Northern Colorado.

Matt Nichols threw for one touchdown and Dale Morris rushed for another for the Eagles (6-3, 4-2 Big Sky).

David Woods’ 102 yards rushing led the Bears (1-9, 1-5), who were seeking their first back-to-back wins in almost four years.Breazeale completed 18-of-26 for 146 yards for the Bears.

Mesa State 18, Colorado Mines 0

GRAND JUNCTION — Bobby Coy ran for 105 yards, and the Maverick defense held the Orediggers (6-4, 5-2 RMAC) to 12 first downs and minus-7 yards rushing.

Mesa (9-1, 6-1) scored on three Jared Keating field goals, a safety, and QB Philip Vigil’s 7-yard run.

Western New Mexico 43, Fort Lewis 21

DURANGO — The Skyhawks’ defense was helpless against the Mustangs (4-5, 4-3 RMAC), giving up 593 yards, 301 of it on the ground.

Fort Lewis (1-8, 1-7) lost starting quarterback Tom Stoffel to injury, forcing the already-injured Dave Nieman to play.

Millsaps College 68, Colorado College 6

COLORADO SPRINGS — Millsaps College ruined the Tigers’ home finale with an impressive offensive display, racking up 669 yards in total offense.
