Douglas County added its fifth municipality Tuesday as voters in Castle Pines North approved incorporation by more than a 3-to-1 margin.

The community of about 10,000 is the first new city in fast-growing Douglas County since Lone Tree incorporated in 1995.

Neighboring Castle Pines Village is expected to vote on incorporation in February. The two communities already have worked out a tax-sharing agreement for the 65 stores along Castle Pines Parkway.

Voters also extended a portion of a sales-tax measure the county first adopted in 1995 to support the county justice center and jail.

Voters rejected a property tax hike worth about $4.6 million a year for new libraries and equipment in Castle Pines North, Parker and Lone tree.
