Season No. 2 in 2007-08, winter sports, will begin preseason practice Saturday.

How time flies …

As usual, there will be five offerings in the middle of three seasons during the school year – boys and girls basketball, ice hockey, boys and girls skiing, girls swimming and wrestling.

Skiing may be delayed awhile, depending on mountain snows, but the overlap, specifically with volleyball’s state tournament this weekend and the rounds of football playoffs that will touch into December, has begun.

The first contest of winter will be Nov. 29. The schedule will run into the Christmas season and, of course, be dormant until after New Year’s Day.

The regrouping will last into February, when the wave of state title competitions will begin.

Girls swimming and diving will be Feb. 15-16 at Edora Pool Ice Center, Fort Collins; boys and girls skiing from Feb. 21-22 at Steamboat Springs; wrestling from Feb. 21-23 at the Pepsi Center; ice hockey March 1 at World Arena, Colorado Springs, a switch from the Denver Coliseum; and boys and girls basketball from March 14-15 at the University of Colorado’s Coors Events Center (5A-4A), Colorado State’s Moby Arena (3A) and the Colorado State Fair Event Center in Pueblo (2A-1A).
