The Colorado Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that the judge presiding over the case of Aaron Thompson, who was indicted in the death of his daughter, must show why he is keeping most of the court file sealed.
The ruling comes after The Denver Post and The Associated Press filed a lawsuit to unseal the court documents in the case.
Arapahoe County District Judge Mark Hannen has until Dec. 12 to show why the facts of the grand jury indictment should be kept from the public. Hannen last month released some documents that contained mostly procedural legal requests but kept factual evidence of the indictment sealed.
A grand jury in May indicted Thompson on 60 counts, including fatal child abuse, conspiracy to commit fatal child abuse, false reporting and concealing a death.
Authorities believe Thompson’s daughter, Aaroné, reported missing in 2005 when she was 6, is dead.
