Firefighters this evening contained a wildland blaze in the mountains just outside Georgetown in steep terrain.

The fire, in the Arapahoe National Forest, burned more than 10 acres but did not threaten any homes or structures, said Sgt. Jim Vogt, of the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office.

The Alvarado Fire had been visible from Interstate 70.

Authorities initially suspected the fire was started by a faulty electric transformer.

But Tom Henley, a spokesman for Xcel Energy, said there is no transformer near the fire’s origin.
