As Matt Holliday celebrated on the infield skin after the Rockies clinched a World Series berth, he almost felt embarrassed that he won National League Championship Series MVP honors. He suggested that he just might break it into 25 pieces. Before this offseason is over, he could have an award to share with everyone of his teammates.

Holliday was named to Louisville Slugger’s Silver Slugger team today for the second consecutive season.

“It’s cool,” said Holliday when asked Thursday night about being a candidate for so many honors.

The award recognizes the game’s most offensive players at each position. Holliday, a left fielder, won his first batting title with a .340 average and also led the National League with 137 RBIs. Holliday will receive a Silver Bat during an on-field presentation next season in recognition of his batting crown. Other Rockies who have won the Silver Slugger multiple times include Larry Walker, Vinny Castilla and current first baseman Todd Helton.
