A memorial service was held today at Buckley Air Force Base for Nathan Schuldheiss, a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, killed Nov. 1 by an IED in Balad, Iraq.

Schuldheiss, 27, is survived by his mother, Sara Conlon, of Golden, and her husband, Kris Mills; his father, Lt. Col. (ret.) John Schuldheiss, and his sister, Erin Dreeszen.

Nathan Schuldheiss was a civilian employee of the Air Force, and volunteered for his assignment to Iraq.

Prior to going to Iraq, he told his mother, “If I don’t come back, I want you to know I’ve lived a full life.”

Two other Air Force special agents were killed by a bomb that detonated as their vehicle passed over it. They are Thomas A. Crowell, 36, of Neosho, Mo., and David A. Wieger, 28, of North Huntingdon, Pa.

Schuldheiss was born May 25, 1980, in Oregon City, Ore. He graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., in 2002 with a degree in political science.

He attended the Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, R.I., and received his law degree in 2005.
