Reserve guard Mike Wilks, still bothered by a hamstring injury, will not play Monday against Cleveland, but he said it’s possible he could play on Wednesday against Portland.
“I’m almost there,” Wilks said after Monday’s shootaround. “I had a good workout Sunday, going about 70 percent. I still have a little ways to go. But I’m getting better every day.”
Wilks is one of three injured guards, which has made strategizing difficult for coach George Karl. Starting point guard Chucky Atkins is out with a groin injury, likely until December. He has begun rehabbing in the swimming pool.
And Anthony Carter has a fractured right hand. He will meet with a doctor on Monday to assess his progress, but Carter said last week he thinks he can return by Nov. 20.
Also, power forward Nene is out with a sprained left thumb, which is splinted and will be put in a cast this week.
Wilks played in the Nuggets’ first three games, averaging 4.0 points per game is 16.7 minutes. He scored eight points in 30 minutes in the win at Minnesota on Nov. 2.
After Wednesday’s game at Pepsi Center, Wilks said he will travel home to Alabama, where his wife, Kimberly, will induce labor on Thursday. The Wilks family is expecting a boy.
Mike Wilks wasn’t “100-percent sure,” but he thinks he will return to Denver on Friday, and be in town for Saturday’s game against New York.
