EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — As Adrian Peterson lay prone on the Lambeau Field turf, his football future flashed before his eyes as a searing pain radiated from his right knee.
“Not really knowing what to expect because it was my knee. I was just praying, ‘God please, don’t let it be anything serious,’ “ Peterson said.
After an MRI exam Monday, Peterson should be sleeping much better now.
The rookie sensation will miss at least one game with a torn lateral collateral ligament. But the injury is not deemed serious enough to require surgery or jeopardize Peterson’s season. Veteran Chester Taylor will jump back into the starter’s role until Peterson is ready to go again.
Also Monday, coach Brad Childress said he will go with quarterback Tarvaris Jackson against the Raiders.
Chiefs go to Croyle: Damon Huard is out and Brodie Croyle is in as starting quarterback for Kansas City. Coach Herm Edwards said the strong-armed Croyle would start at Indianapolis Sunday as the Chiefs try to snap a two-game losing streak and revive one of the NFL’s weakest offenses.
Berry injures triceps. The Cardinals believe defensive end Bertrand Berry again has a torn left triceps. Last year, he was sidelined for the final six games of the season with a torn right triceps. That injury also came against the Lions.
Joe Tafoya and Darryl Blackstock will share Berry’s job.
Redskins safety sprains knee. Sean Taylor will miss at least two weeks with a knee injury, further depleting a secondary that allowed two big plays late in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. An MRI revealed a sprain of the MCL in Taylor’s right knee.
QB questions in Detroit. Lions quarterback Jon Kitna dismissed questions about a back injury, despite concerns raised by coach Rod Marinelli.
Marinelli said Kitna had a lower back injury, but Kitna disagreed.
Marinelli said cornerback Fernando Bryant was questionable for this weekend’s game against the visiting Giants with a sprained foot, and defensive end Dewayne White could return after missing Sunday’s loss with an arm injury.
Offensive tackle Jonathan Scott is expected to miss his second straight game with a broken thumb.
Injuries piling up for Titans. Cornerback Nick Harper and receiver Brandon Jones each suffered a concussion against the Jaguars. Right tackle David Stewart sprained an ankle. Running back LenDale White hurt a knee, but coach Jeff Fisher said he expects him to practice. Chris Brown, who has missed four straight games with a sprained ankle, is expected to practice.
Bush, Brown to play. Saints running back Reggie Bush, who was dazed by a helmet-to-helmet hit against the Rams, and left tackle Jammal Brown, who left the game with a lower leg muscle strain, both should be well enough to play Sunday at Houston.
Bruce tweaks hamstring. Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce aggravated a left hamstring injury against New Orleans. Coach Scott Linehan said his availability for Sunday’s game at San Francisco will depend on how he does at practice this week. Defensive end Leonard Little had surgery Monday on a toe injury. He is out for the rest of the season.
Garrard ready to return. Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, who missed the past three games because of an ankle injury, expects to return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Chargers.
Coach Jack Del Rio said kicker Josh Scobee also was nearing a return. Scobee injured his right leg in the season opener and hasn’t played since.
Grossman still in limbo. Subbing for the injured Brian Griese, Grossman delivered for the Bears, but coach Lovie Smith wasn’t saying if Grossman is his new quarterback, revealing that Griese has a sprained left shoulder and has not been medically cleared to play.
McNair hurting. Quarterback Steve McNair has developed “substantial soreness” in his non-throwing shoulder, Ravens coach Brian Billick said. That, coupled with McNair’s unsightly numbers the past two weeks, could cause Billick to turn to Kyle Boller against the Browns.
Favre A-OK. Brett Favre took a big hit that left him feeling a bit woozy. On Monday, Favre was the same old ironman. “I just checked on him, he checked out fine,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. “He’s not even on the medical list.”
