WASHINGTON, PA. — “Batting fourth, for your Washington Wild Things … Barry Bonds?” That’s what this independent minor-league franchise is hoping for and has made a public offer on the free-agent market for Bonds, according to The Associated Press.
The pluses for Bonds, according to the team:
* He would be playing not far from where he began his major-league career in Pittsburgh.
* The team is offering a 50-50 share on merchandise sales and a pledge to find a host family for Bonds so he doesn’t have to rent an apartment.
* On the road, Bonds would get a king-sized single room, a major perk on the minor-league level.
We’re guessing the negative outweighs all the positives: His salary would go from about the $16 million he made last season, to the Frontier League’s maximum salary of $1,200 per month.
