The University of Denver men’s soccer team fell short of a league championship in its regular-season finale after playing to a 0-0 draw with New Mexico on Sunday at Pioneer Field.
New Mexico (12-4-2, 7-1-2) held on to win the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I tournament.
Denver (10-4-3, 6-1-2) got close when Kellan Christensen’s shot in the second overtime hit the crossbar. The Pioneers may earn an at-large bid into the tournament. The NCAA will announce the bracket today at 3:30 p.m.
Nigro’s goal leads Falcons. Andy Nigro scored the lone goal to lead the Air Force men’s soccer team (5-12-1, 3-7 MPSF) to a 1-0 victory over Nevada-Las Vegas (7-10-2, 3-7) at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
AFA takes third place. Alex Churnside’s game-winning goal with 1:04 remaining in the second overtime gave the Air Force men’s water polo team a 10-9 victory over visiting Santa Clara in the third-place game of the Western Water Polo Association Championship. The Falcons (15-14) finished their most successful season since 2003.
