ALAMOSA, Colo.—Hundreds of falconers from around the nation are gathering in the San Luis Valley and many have brought their raptors with them.

It is the annual convention of the North American Falconers Association and began Sunday and goes through Friday.

Falconers use their birds, which range from falcons to birds as small as kestral hawks and as large as golden eagles, to hunt prey.

The Pueblo Chieftain reported that Wolf Brueggeman, the convention organizer, said a large variety of birds will be present. And the falconers will be allowed to hunt while in the area.
