KERSEY, Colo.—Parker Guttersen ran in three touchdowns to lead Platte Valley over Platte Canyon 21-7 Saturday for the Class 2A football championship, its first state football title in school history.

Platte Valley (11-2), who lost in the title game last year, scored first after recovering a fumbled snap on a punt and taking advantage of good field position. Guttersen scored on an 11-yard run, and the Broncos converted a two-point conversion to lead 8-0.

Gutterson’s second score on a 5-yard run gave the Broncos a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Platte Canyon (10-3) got on the board with A.J. Melillo’s one-yard TD run in the third quarter after cornerback Ben Wegener returned an interception thrown by Guttersen 69 yards to the Broncos 14.

Guttersen’s touchdown in the fourth quarter closed out scoring.

Platte Canyon entered the game averaging 303.5 rushing yards per game but was held to 91 yards on the ground Saturday and nine yards through the air.

Platte Valley totaled 210 yards and 36 passing yards.
