GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction area man says he plans to contest the seizure of more than 150 weapons from a safe in his business.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel says the Mesa County SWAT team took the weapons in a raid on Bill Martin’s A1 Repossessions on November 15th.
The 60-year-old Martin says he hasn’t been charged with anything, though he is preparing for it.
In his words, the Vietnam veteran said, “The SWAT team must have been very bored.”
He said the sheriff’s department has refused to return the weapons, some of which belong to other people.
Colorado law prohibits convicted felons from possessing weapons. Martin pleaded guilty to vehicular assault in 1991.
District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says the law is clear and Martin likely will be charged with a felony.
Grand Junction Mayor Jim Doody, who worked with Martin to build the Western Slope War Memorial in Fruita, says he has questions about how the case has been handled.
