BYERS, Colo.—Grief counselors are expected to be on hand at Byers High School today, two days after a one-vehicle rollover killed a Strasburg girl who was a sophomore there.
Fifteen-year-old Tonya Dmitruk died late Saturday when the car she was driving went off of Arapahoe County Road 10 near state Highway 40.
Three female passengers, including Tonya’s 14-year-old sister, Alonya, were hurt.
State Trooper Gilbert Mares says speed and driver inexperience are suspected as contributing factors in the crash.
The car belonged to one of the other two passengers. Tonya was not old enough to have a license.
Mares says it’s unclear why the girls allowed someone without a license to get behind the wheel, but says no charges will be filed.
