VAIL, Colo.—About 200 people were evacuated from a shopping center for almost 2 1/2 hours after a natural gas leak at a restaurant Monday morning, town spokeswoman Suzanne Silverthorn said.

A defect in the kitchen exhaust system was the source of the leak, Silverthorn said.

Children from the Vail Child Care Center and employees from City Market and other businesses were bussed to Donovan Pavilion during the leak, she said.

Some businesses reopened Monday afternoon, but others stayed closed. No injuries were reported.
