The Patriots opened in Las Vegas last week as 17-point favorites to beat the Eagles. By kickoff, the line was 17 … for the first half.
For all the story lines out there, it sure looks like the Patriots are going to win the Super Bowl. The rest is just an excuse to air beer commercials and check out the cheerleaders.
Maybe, maybe not.
Don’t look now, but, while the Patriots are head and shoulders above the rest of the league, the NFC is catching up to the big, bad AFC.
The Bears’ victory over the Broncos Sunday was the NFC’s 25th in the interconference matchups. I only mention it because the NFC only won 24 times in last year’s interconference series.
The Cowboys are dramatically improved, as are the Packers. And several other NFC teams are inching their way up the NFL food chain.
You have to wonder, don’t you? After watching the Eagles almost pull off an upset Sunday night, you have to wonder if the Patriots may yet have to break a sweat this season.
